Wolfi's Cocktail Medley
on: April 05, 2012, 05:59:19 PM
Ronde's improvisation has inspired my to do something similar. I love bar piano, but I don't have the consistency to practice it regularly, though I often would like to, I am rather dabbling in it every once in a while.

In this you will hear me playing around some popular themes that have been meaningful to me during the past years:

Strangers in the Night
Europa (Santana)
Unfaithful (Rihanna)
As time goes by
Memory (Cats)

That left me with a smile on my face. You moved between all the different parts with apparent ease and no obvious joins; a sign of a true improviser!

Very nice, Wolfi. I don't know what else to say...I'm out of my league. Don't drink, don't smoke, and don't know any tunes (now I have heard Strangers and Memory). I remember a great guitarist and innovative improvisational genius named David Grier was once asked if he practiced scales on the guitar. He responded, "No, I figured people don't pay to hear scales, they pay to hear tunes, so I always practiced tunes." I always liked that (especially considering it would have to work for a genius).
Don't let anyone know where you tie your goat.

Thank you both for listening! I hope I can practice more often in this style :) It's very relaxing! But somehow it's difficult for me to stay in time, haha :P
