It's probably because the majority of 1-3 year pianists aren't interested enough in order to go on a piano forum. It takes time to develop a devotion to the piano?

I am interested enough to be on this forum.;D;D In fact right now I wish I was advanced and said to myself "I can't believe I'll be able to play this" As I look in my future book level 6 right now I just started level 5 after two months of doing level 4. :) I'm halfway their! ;D

There are plenty of experience pianists that aren't devoted enough to spend their spare non practice time on a forum..

...I've met teachers who have never heard of the common reference books, and after i mention them they are completely disinterested in them, seeing no value in reading books about their profession. I'm guessing they aren't here either..

True, but more likely that someone interested enough to be on this site is more experienced. Perhaps?

Though looking at these polls, it seems that there are almost as many 1-3 years experienced as 7-12 or 20+.

Does experience mean how long one has played from the very beginning or when one has started to take playing the piano seriously?
Chopin-Waltz Op.42
Brahms-Intermezzo Op.118 No.2
Field-Sonata No.1
Beethoven-Sonata Op.14 No.1
Bach-Prelude and Fugue in B flat No.21 WTC 1

You could probably argue that valid experience may not even match up to the number of years playing..

I believe marik could play most of the chopin etudes by age 18 - I could not, and if our ages had matched we probably wouldve both been playing the piano a similar number of years at that time..
