Is Une Barque sur l'ocean within my reach?
on: April 18, 2012, 11:06:48 PM
Hi,
I'm new to the forum so I'm sorry if I do something wrong. Anyways, I was wondering if I could play Une Barque sur l'ocean by Ravel. I have 12 years of piano experience under my belt. I've studied alot of impressionism and I absolutely love Ravel! I have recently played Ce qu'a vu le vent d'ouest by Debussy, and several other various pieces of different time periods.
Thank you!

Ravel is absolutely one of my favorite composers. I urge you to be very cautious with his work. Besides writing some of the most technically demanding repertoire in existence, the musicality required is very significant. The piece that helped me understand ravel the most was Jeux d'Eau. It's pretty much a look into his compositional mindset. It's absolutely lovely, and can be diabolical. Learn Jeux d'Eau, then all Ravel will come easy:)
