You teaching your family piano!
on: April 19, 2012, 02:16:23 PM
My mom wanted to learn so I said to myself why not teach her my self! And also that would be good to help generate more experience to become a teacher wouldn't you say.?

There are arguments in favour... and there are arguments against... and then there are just plain arguments!  I would say it would depend a lot on how well you get on with your Mom.  She will get frustrated at times (as we all do!) and this could lead to some ... ah... friction?  But if you both approach it as a way for her to learn piano and at the same time for you to learn more about teaching piano, and look at it as a real learning experience for both of you (it will be!) then I'd say to go for it!

One minor item, though -- try to avoid quizzing your own teacher about how to solve your mother's problems.  That really isn't quite fair to your own teacher.

Have fun!
Ian

I was teaching my mum for a while! I even composed a piece for her (well actually two but one was a lot too difficult for her). But then she never had enough time and then the neighbours started complaining about piano and so we stopped.  :( but I'm still hoping I can start teaching her again some day!  :)

I've composed a few songs but they need some work. :)

Well it's not like I composed some complicated big pieces... just little simple ones...  :) the first one is probably about grade 1 and the second maybe grade 2 or 3.  :) Maybe I will record them and post them when I can.  :)

sorry to hear that, Hopefully you can. :)

Yes I hope too, thanks!  :)
