Deux arabesque no 1
on: April 22, 2012, 06:13:16 PM
Hello, well I have been playing piano since last year, and got my piano on Dec... Eager for playing i started to practice kind of hard, you know vacation and stuf...

So in this time I've learned Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 no 2, Mozart's Rondo alla turca, and as almost every student Pour Elise....

So I was picking some new pieces to learn, and actually was thinking of some romantic ones to learn, but all of them are well known and a lot of people I know already play (first movement of the moonlight sonata, some other chopin pieces) so i postponed them, decided to try this Arabesque by Debussy.

I've been practicing the hands separeted of the first part, it is quite a hard piece of music, i talked to my teacher and she said that if I have listened to it, and really want to play so i can try, but it is hard.

So I saw this forum and decided to register  ;D, and wanted to ask what you guys think. My choice is kind of unrealistic for the time being?? Should I pick another music for now, even if to develop my technique to play it...

Also if someone has another suggestion of pieces, maybe something in Chopin style, or himself, quite melodic..

I would say the Arabesque is realistic for anyone who can play an octave comfortably.

What's most important is whether your teacher knows how to play and teach it.

Also if someone has another suggestion of pieces, maybe something in Chopin style, or himself, quite melodic..

I would recommend almost any Chopin Waltz (keyword almost).

Try the Chopin Waltz, Op. 69 No. 2.  I think this is a good followup to the Nocturne you've learned.  If you've thoroughly and properly studied the Nocturne, this should be easy to learn since there will be very little technique you're unfamiliar with.

Thanks for the opinion... I'll keep studying the arabesque, the left hand has some trick arpeggios, and section 2 is a bit simpler than the first one, so I guess maybe it won't even be that hard.

I really enjoyed the Walts you suggested, I didn't remember it, really enjoyed the listen and it doesn't look quite hard, think I'll have a good time with this one....  ;) Everyone talks about Chopin Waltz, they have a fame of it's own... Maybe I'll even get a try on the Adieux after this pieces...
