I need help improving my technique
on: April 30, 2012, 11:11:15 AM
Hi, im new to this forum. Im 23, and i just recently within the past couple of months, ive been trying to get back into playing the piano. I took lessons for a few months when i was 16 but i had to stop because of my grades. I kept playing on my own, but i stopped about 3 years ago because i started playing the electric guitar.  I cant afford to take lessons again right now with a wife and 3 mo son, but i want to learn and improve my skills properly.

I have a few videos of me playing some things i learned posted on youtube under the username: "dadynamite" but i believe im not using proper technique in my playing, and i have a very difficult time sight reading, those songs on my videos each took me about a month to learn, practicing everyday too. Maybe im just trying to play things that are too advanced for me?  I want to eventually be able to learn how to improv, can anyone help me out as to where to start again?  Or what pieces/exercises to practice?  I have a book of hanon exercises somewhere but never practiced them, it was painfully boring but im assuming theyre very helpful?

Thanks! beau n.

I stopped playing piano from 2008 - 2011. I got frustrated and a lot of stuff I played was a disaster.

Reading music isn't as hard as you think and it's a skill anyone can develop. I've never done any Hanon exercises so it's not my place to tell you.

You can start by visiting my blog and youtube channel. I give free lessons and you can get a taste of how I can help people reach my level. I have most answers people seek and I'm convinced that anyone can surpass me in 2 years or less using my piano courses.

Perfection itself is imperfection.
