Do you trust this piano review?
on: May 08, 2012, 07:23:14 AM
Folks, here you go rankings of most piano...

https://www.thepianoreview.com/piano-ratings.html

Do you think this is a clear quideline. I actually played Bechesten, Sieler, Hoffaman and VM kanbe, these had german Renner action, VM assmbled in Korea. The renner action is very responsive and effortless. The key stroke is little longer than my Yamaha at home, but I have to admit, tehse renner actions had a slight edge over mine.

Have your say...

renner makes a great action, solid stuff, doesn't totally make or break the piano but it's an important component (i.e. a great transmission in a crappy car is still just a crappy car with a nice tranny).

i actually like some steinways that get rebuilt with renner put in (purists will call blasphemy but bleh, sometiems different is just different, and sometimes different is better).

on the subject of actions, the new kawai top end rx have that sweet updated millenium iii action, my favorite thing on the planet as far as piano actions go!

reivews are good for general guidlines and categories but at the end of the day, go with what you like, what  you can afford, what you can fit in your place, etc.

if you're going to look at top end instruments, i sing their praises all the time but shigeru is top's in my book !

4915, thanks for your feedback. I fotgot to mention the million action of Kawai was awsome too at other piano shop, it is so response. I liked the polymer arms, that we never worry about the affect of humidity in piano.

yet another reason they are fantastic in humid climates/parts of the work or where there are big seasonal changes and you can't spend a fortune on climate controls (i.e expensive air conditioning and heating bills, etc., some of the 'traditional' actions with all wood components i.e steinways are a little more tempermental over time in some places with big air moisture content changes)

Actually, that site is a bit suspect. The list is a modified list that can be found in Larry Fine's "The Piano Book". It is the same grouping, with mostly the same names and models, except for some additions (Seiler is in the top ranking, as is Schulze Pollman and Charles R. Walter. Larry rates them differently).

What I don't like is that this is such a close adaptation of Fine's list that he should be given credit. Which makes me think the creators of the site are a but unscrupulous....
