I was thinking about the Liszt sonata last night and think that when you look at the musical and physical demands together nothing surpasses it,Ed
Ah, and Rachmaninoff 2nd concerto.
...controversial! I agree. I find the 2nd more awkward than the 3rd.
Although the 3rd is certainly more pianistic than the 2nd, they are in different leagues technically,Ed
Xenon, the Totentanz is a great piece
and people also play it
It is a set of variations on the Dies Irae theme for piano and orchestra,Ed
lol to whoever said Gowdosky transcriptions of the Chopin etudes.. omg yeah.. I did the... A flat major one I believe.. and that piece was incredibly difficult! mm.. I've never played it, but Liszt Campanella sounds pretty hard, but then again, so are most Liszt pieces. I actually think his transcedental etude #10 F minor is REALLY hard.. I found it a lot more difficult than the Mephisto waltz or Rach 2nd concerto, though Rach 2nd is SO pretty.. esp. the last mov. Just my 2 cents.. I've also heard the Liszt Sonata's incredibly difficult.. can't say from experience though *sigh*
whos that freak dude who had like 7 fingers and the piece he composed can only be played with someone with 7 fingers - he was an extraordinary composer!
