Piano Street Magazine:
Wagner’s Universe in a Pianist’s Hands

One of the most thrilling performances offered at Cremona Musica this year was the Wagner by Liszt recital given by Filippo Tenisci – Italian pianist, born 1998 and celebrated for his refined interpretations and expressive mastery of the Romantic repertoire. After his recital we got the chance talking to Tenici about his Wagner/Liszt project. Read more

Someone's gotta keep going. In the meantime, here's my new (well old, I got a used baby grand on craigslist recently) piano. What do you think?

Whenever I listen to you music Derek, I almost always become breathless at certain points. Your use of the lower base notes often make me tingle, perhaps its the way you harmonise them, or maybe its something more! I dont know, but I loved this peice, especially the opening!

And in regards to the subject title, im going to do some recording now I think, whenever I log into piano street and hear some fantastic improvisation, it always pulls me from whatever im doing and forces me to play! hopefully have some new stuff up soon!

Very beautiful! Ahhhh to hear you on an acoustic piano is sooo much fun, really! :)

Congratulations on your new instrument, it seems to be fantastic, and congratulations on another sensitive and romantic improv! Doesn't that feel much better, like you're finally able to express what you always wanted?

And yes, as you say so, I will post another improv as well, today.

Thanks, glad you liked the improv and the piano. It was a real steal. How I managed to convince my wife to squeeze it into the house was the real miracle here. But yeah, the richness of the overtones of a real piano, plus the slight imperfection of the sound makes it feel so much more...I don't know. Just much. More.

I'm kind of having a rebirth musically, its a nice feeling. Not sure what happened to me for a little while there. I think I'm just accepting my fate as an improvising amateur and de-emphasizing learning pieces. It is very difficult to fit "everything" in, plus a job, plus other hobbies, plus wife, etc. etc. But improv fits in just perfectly.

Derek,

Congratulations on your new-to-you piano!  I sense from the beginning of this piece you were in the space, the state where the acoustical phenomenon of the instrument allows you to transport music through its sound.  Indeed, there is that element of an acoustic piano that no digital instrument has been able to replicate to this point.  I found the treatment of the tenor melody near the end, particularly beautiful.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
