Is it proper to criricize an established pianist directly concerning a recent performance ?

As long as it is well founded, I think any criticism can be constructive. Is that what you mean?

I don't really care too much about the conventions, but personally, I'd rather keep silent if the concert was not so good and hope for the best next time. I mean, if it was really bad or something, is it even worth wasting time and energy on talking about it? Sometimes the performer is physically ill, but still cannot afford to cancel the concert because of contractual obligations. Who are we to judge?
