Liszt: Totentanz piano solo
on: May 19, 2012, 09:37:27 PM
I did it! I learned the 25 pages of that dark, weird, depressing and never-ending masterpiece!  :D
My mother hates Totentanz! Can you see why?  ;D

 :o :o :o

I love you! Haha!! And your interpretation too!! I love this hard piece and I think you play it very well.

You have to have a hard taste to like this piece, so I can understand your mother xD

It's not so fast as Lisitsa (that's obvious, if you would do it so fast as her, you would be a total genius xD) but anyway it's very well played.

The variation V is my favourite one. I love that repeated notes and you can play them perfect!

Just congratulations  ;)

Thanks frankiisko! I really appreciate your comment. Yes Lisitsa is a freaking machine, I'll never be able to play it fast like her. It's just impossible for the common mortal to hit those notes with precision at that speed. Liszt knew that, he's probably laughing at me from beyond  ;D

I really liked your performance, although your choice of imagery for this video is quite disturbing  :o

I have an obsession with this piece, maybe I have the same fascination de la mort Liszt had when he composed this piece. At some points, specially the fifth variation, it kinds of foretells movie soundtracks  ;D

WHAT??? The images are PERFECT for this piece. Considering the artwork this piece of music was inspired by, I think it's just freaking AWESOME!!!

Hi perfect_pitch, when are you going to send another video of the revolutionary Chopin? I am still learning it, I am approximately half way because I have to play in someone else's piano, but so far I got to double the speed to 120bpm in the bits I know. I need more repetition because I never done so many left hand arpegios in left hand before, but once I repeat a few dozen times, it gets mechanical so its not that difficult.

Nah... I'm focusing on Brahms or the Beethoven now.

The Chopin I was only doing for a piano workshop. Now that it's over, I'm looking at the bigger pieces now.

Hahaha I'm really glad you like the images! I thought it might be a little cheesy, but it really reflects what the piece inspires me. Thanks for the kind comments!

Wow, I'd love to learn this piece, very well done indeed!  I first came across this after finding Valentina's rendition of Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 (piece I'm still in the process of learning)... that's how I found her.  So then of course, found Totentanz.  I also have a thing for depressing/melodramatic piano music!  I'd take that any day over something cheery!
I'm trying to find the music to buy.. I'm just worried that my hands wont be big enough!

Bravo! I love your interpretation. Everything sounded clear and well thought-through to me.

I would like to learn this piece in the future. I hope I will play it as good as you! :)
