No, No, the Moonlight thingy is a way better song!  My friend plays the piano-he is amazing!  The other day he showed me some really fun song where you roll your knuckles across the black keys.  The Rach 3 is dumb-you can't relax to it, and it's way too long and filled with random notes.  All the singers nowadays are way better musicians than those old fogies that you all listen to.

Yeah, don't you think it's so annoying when you work really hard on a very challenging (musically and technically) piece and after you"ve performed it, people are talking about the really simple "realxing" piece you played before it?

Yeah, definitely.  I've played in "music recitals," "talent shows," etc. before.  I usually pick something difficult and dramatic, yet what I'd consider fairly accessible-Chopin etudes, Rach preludes, etc.  Yet whenever anybody plays the big 3 (Fur Elise, Moonlight First mvt., or Claire de Lune) they always get the big applause.  Maybe I should just forget the hard stuff for these types of audiences and play Claire de Lune.

But everything aside, Claire De Lune really is a nice piece.  Fur Elise.. hmm... that piece just sucks in my opinion.

In my opinion, both Claire de lune and Rach 3 are equally beautiful pieces. I've played the entire first movement and quite a few measures in Intermezzo and Finale as excerpts, but never had time to finish the whole piece. It's definitely a very challenging and time-consuming piece. You should have a lot of patience when tackling it. However, I hate to see people consider it as the epitome of super-virtuosity or something impossible to play. This kind of apotheosis really bothers me. It's just the matter of time to learn it. Rach 3 is on my favourite list for sure, but a piece does not have to be difficult to be beautiful. Just my two cents.

Most difficult music is that way-it's not so much "difficult" as "time consuming."  Once you're able to play it well, then most pieces of music become relatively "easy."  There are some exceptions, though...namely those that border on the physically impossible.

At first I saw this thread and nearly had fit, but then I realized it was all just for fun... whew!

Yeah the whole claire de lune and fur elise thing gets to us all doesn't it? I was walking out of school the other day and I heard the piano going in the music room, I listened waited around in the hallway for a minute to see if anything good would start to come up, but all there was was fur elise and Pachelbel's canon. I wanted to throw up. Even mainstream classical gets to you because it gets bashed by the retards who are into all of the mainstream crap. This girl tried to make the Pachelbel  (i'm not sure I'm spelling this right) sound like a brittney spears concert.

The Rachmaninov is quite a sad story I think, as it has been raped over and over again. Many amatuers like the catchy name and the infamy that goes along with it and BAM, you get about a billion people wasting literally years trying to get this piece down, when if they would have waited just five years, they probably could have played it someday. I don't understand how someone who barely understands the theory or musical depth of a piece like Fur Elise would get the balls to even think of trying this rachmaninov piece. And it's a concerto to boot! Madness! I don't see the big attraction. It isn't his best. Ah well , I'm ranting. Play Rondo All Turca by mozart. Those octaves are killer. Probably second hardest  piece only to Rach 3.  ;)  :P

Not that I don't agree that a lot of artists like Brittany Spears are crappy. But that music isn't SUPPOSED to be all advanced. And MOST poeple listening to it, don't think that they are musicians. And the ones who do....well just pity them.
By the way, just because a band only ha sone hit doesn't mean they aren't good. As a matter of fact, a band doesn't have to have a hit at all to be good. I love the band Opeth, but they've never been on MTV, nor have they had a radio single. There just a band from Sweden with fans here. I can take an example straight out of your list. Effiel 65 may not be so musically advanced, and they may have only had one hit, but who cares man. I have their CD and there's a lot of catchy dance songs on there that I like listening to. Stuff doesn't have to be advanced to be good, it's just different.
IMO, music like Brittany Spears(I hate it), but I guess it's there for the whole pop culture thing and so that people have something to listen to at a party. Would you flip on Mozart to dance to? I don't think so. Metal and Rock as well has it's good and bad. But it's all there for different reasons.
As pointless as this rant seems I'm talkign to those arrogant/ignorant ones who believe that classical is the "only" or "master" form of music. I can prove to you it is not becuase just how in jazz there are those amazing talented very musically advanced artists. I could easily point you in the same direction with rock artists. It is not "mainstream", but nor is classical wouldn't you say?

Piano Street Magazine:
Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
