pathetic sonata problem

hi
on bar 10 of this sonata there are 4  consecutive A flat notes with staccato and legato marking a the same time ? what does it mean?

Some call it "portamento", some "portato". It's a slightly detached touch at the surface of the key, neither staccato nor legato.
P.S.: Just kidding, but this sonata is not pathetic, but Pathétique (French pronunciation).

Only about the "pathetic" AFTER after the P.S., which also has another meaning.

This part of the piece requires very little pedal. Basically I use it only for the sforzando chords. As to bars 9/10: depending on where I have to play, what instrument, etc. I might add half pedal on the two portato notes of bar 9, but not on the portato notes in bar 10. This has to do with the position of the chords in the left hand; pedal doesn't work well there.
