Bach - Prelude and Fugue in c# minor, BWV873 (WTC II)
on: June 09, 2012, 02:51:25 PM
the fantastic prelude and fugue in c# minor from the second book; the prelude is a very complex rococo sinfonia of three totally independent voices, reminding me of a lamenting orchestral sinfonia from a passion or something. the intricacy is really stunning. the fugue is a virtuosic piece in 12 / 16, with a complex rhythmic arrangement and a lot of detail in the fingerwork. i think the big contrast makes this one of the best sets for a modern concert stage. sort of similar to f# minor from second book, which also has an orchestral like prelude, though more like an arioso with oboe, and a big, grand fugue.
