Variations on themes by J.S. Bach...
on: June 10, 2012, 04:41:04 AM
Hi there ;)

I'd love to know if there are any other piano solo variations on themes by Bach apart from those by Reinecke, Reger and Rimsky-Korsakov's; well, the latter is actually on the theme B.A.C.H. but oh well ^^

Huge cheers 8)

Liszt's variations on Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen is one of the most emotionally powerful solo piano pieces ever and one of his greatest works - although it is a difficult one to understand. I thought it was a piece of fairly empty virtuosity and found it very tedious at first...now I consider it one of his few solo piano pieces that comes close to the sonata.

Actually, every piece on the theme B.A.C.H. is a piece on a theme by Bach as Bach himself also did use the B.A.C.H. theme. :)

True enough ;D though I was rather expecting to find some based on other Bach themes  ;)
