Open Sea

I was actually never at open sea, in fact I was never even on a boat, but it was the theme I have chosen for this one so there it is.
All truths, not merely ideas, but truthful faces, truthful pictures or songs, are highly beautiful.

This is a very effective piece of impressionism. A flowing middle section, flanked by the two similar chordal sections, imparts a pleasing symmetry, and the dialogue of phrases between the hands in the middle section is irrestistibly suggestive of those smaller, chaotic surface wavelets which race across the surface of the sea on a fine but windy day.

From the first note I ever heard of your playing, I have been captivated by the way music so naturally flows out of you, and also the harmonic language which has always appealed to me. You are a great improviser. Truly a special gift!

Thank you both for your comments. I enjoy making these improvisations on a theme, especially when recording them. It makes it so much easier to begin and end the piece in a timely manner.

Furtwaengler, I don't think I deserve such praise, but it makes me happy of course. At least someone likes my improvisations.
