I have done other works of bach such as 2part invention #1,#3, and #8, the first and fifth of the six little preludes,( bwv 933 and 937 ), the prelude and menuets from partita 1, the gigue from french suite no. 5. i didn't find any of these unreasonably difficult, but they do require a bit of work.

and i am currently working on chopin's waltz in b minor op 69 no 2. i am thinking of starting the prelude # 23 in b major of book 2 of the 48. just the prelude. is the difficulty reasonable for me, ? i know that difficulty is very subjective, but i need opinions if this is somewhere 'within my range' based from what i have already done.

should i go with it or would i be better off doing other works? i would appreciate any help/advice,, thank you

Generally, you should pick these by the difficulties of the fugues. This one has a 4 voice fugue. Since this is your first P&F, I think you should pick a 3 voice one.  The number of voices should be marked at the start of each fugue, either by just the number or the phrase "a 3 voci".

Ok, i see, the fugue should be the topic of consideration. I'll look for a 3 voice one, thanks. :)

I think it is too early for you to start WTC; to manage the fugues you have to operate at least 3 voices fluenlty.

You should know that disparity in difficulty between little preludes, inventions and the fugues is huge.

I am currently practising French and English Suites of J.S. Bach after having done almost all two-part inventions and still I don't feel prepared to start WTC, even though I'd really like to start it at last.

But if you like Bach I recommend you Suites (particular dances also vary significantly in difficulty). They are charming. You will definitely find something for you.

Best wishes
