Advice needed: Where do i start?
on: June 11, 2012, 12:34:07 PM
Hi everyone,

I am a Music Producer with very little knowledge of Piano. I am not planning to become Mozart, but i would like to learn more variations on Chords and Rythms within those chords (Maybe also known as Arpeggio's?)

The question is, where do i look? Most tutorials i find are about minor/major chords which i already know, and i just want to get into variations and getting a groove going with the chords i know.

Right now i am not with a music teacher, and right now i am not planning to because of time lacking. So any tips on Online lessons / General tips .. please!

Thank you,

Robert

If I understand well, you are autodidact, and you want to improve your knowledge of theory, and practice of modern styles.
This book could help:
"How to Play Piano Despite Years of Lessons: What Music Is and How to Make It at Home"

and if you need more advanced theory: "The jazz piano book" of Mark Levine

Hi,
There is a website called www.e-chords.com which has some charts of chords for piano. For some reason they include a fourth note on triad chords which is not exactly correct but still it may help.  Not sure what you mean by minor/major chords. Does that include major 7th / minor 7th?  Maybe what you need is a style/rhythm pattern type of book.

Yes, i think i do need that. Let me try to explain myself again:

I know how to play chords (In a simple way), but im not able to make them dynamic / Swing / get into the rythm.
