I'm new here! Would like to introduce myself :)

I'm a 27 year old female currently living near Sydney, Australia. Raised in the UK, I started my piano adventure at the age of 10, and passed my Grade 8 classical piano exam at 18. Having said that however, my current standard is nowhere near Grade 8  :(, as I pretty much stopped playing the piano after I started university. I finally picked it up again a couple of years ago, but my practise schedule is still somewhat sporadic.

Looking back, I now realise just how "structured" and "rigid" the teaching of classical music is...I was never taught the art of improvisation or playing by ear, something which I really wish I could do now. Having said that though, I don't think I actually appreciated the piano at that age as much as I do now (ohhh the things age does to you!).

Anyone else from around the Sydney area? I would also really appreciate any suggestions for teachers or learning aids that you'd recommend for learning improvisation and ear training. I'm currently revising all my scales and learning chords and things are coming on very slowly...

Hey what's up?!  I would say something else, but unfortunately I can't help you with improvisation and ear training...  So I guess 'what's up??' is all that I can really say sorry.

And I'm not from the Sydney area.

Hello! Welcome! I'm Rose.

I'm not from the Sydney area either.
