Feodor Stepanovich Akimenko works for solo piano
on: June 20, 2012, 09:49:58 PM
scores are relatively easy to find/be had but basic googles seem to favor a few instrumental (non piano) works. I haven't been very successful with finding a bio or anything like that, no wiki's that i know of either (just a couple short french and russian entries but not substantial), so far here's all i pretty much know
"...Akimenko studied with Balakirev and Rimsky-Korsakov in St. Petersburg. He lived in France from 1903 till 1906, and settled there after the Russian Revolution. He also was Stravinsky’s first composition teacher. ..."
so he was Ukranian. Studied with some incredible folks, and taught a thing or two to a guy we've probably heard of. His music visually through basic score reading (not at the keyboard just looking) looks well constructed. He had a pretty decent piano solo compositional output but I can't find a single recording of a solo work.
incomplete but decent length list

Anyone know if there are any vintage LP's (perhaps since i doubt any new CD's of his pieces have been made from my searching). exist? or if theres anywhere online i can listen to this stuff? i plan on eventually reading some things but i just cannot at the moment due to lessons deadlines and a pile of music i must read through each day as it is.
I should prolly ask Rachfan, he's the resi expert of this group of guys....hopefully he'll happen upon this and volunteer a tidbit or two
(20 February 1876 — 3 January 1945)
any music history, musicology, program notes, etc info anyone has on this cat would be super duper uber appreciated!
