what scale is this?
on: June 21, 2012, 11:46:48 PM
Hi,
I'm completely new to the piano and found this song that I like with piano in it, and I would just like to know what scale it is played in. It's not classical music, it's strange experimental music, but the piano part is very beautiful, at least to my ears. I would like to try to write something similar to it, I like the way the notes sound together.

Here it is:

Thank you so much!

I think what you are referring to is the key it is in. In this case I have no idea.

Its hard to know without looking at the sheet music but it could be a minor key and some of the motifs might include intervals such as 3rds 4ths 5ths 6ths and 7ths. I think I hear alot of sus chords but I dont know for sure

It's in B major. Or A flat, because it's based on a very simple pentatonic scale and I'd bet money these people don't know how to play on different than C#, D#, F#, G#, A#/ Db, Eb, Gb, Ab, Bb.

It sounds like C# minor, alternating with Db major to me.
