Where is this resource heading?
on: June 27, 2012, 03:02:34 PM
@ Administrator

Seems like there are too many trolls here that create useless threads to let what looks like other trolls (but are actually the same people) do the further work. Soon the summer holidays start and this forum will be washed away by such destructive behavior of people who have nothing to do. Personally, I'm already in the mood to quit, and I've been here only for less than two months. How many times does one have to click the "report-to-moderator" button before certain types are removed or disabled?

Questions:

1) Isn't there some kind of pre-moderation option in the forum's software?

I understand that for the moderators alone this would be too much work, but:

2) Would it be an option to give certain trusted senior users limited moderator rights, let's say they click "pre-moderation" or at least "hide" for what is inappropriate or completely useless?

Your resource is going to die if you don't take adequate measures, really. Professionals go away and retards rule.

Additional info of why you cannot ignore measures against trolls:

1. One may argue that there is an "ignore" button, but users who are not registered don't have such options because they don't have a profile. The average user/guests ratio is 1:20. The impression for outsiders must be awful.

2. Google indexes everything and in the end, all you get as a Google search result will be mediocre or bad replies to frequently asked questions.

P.S.: Also, any specific measures you plan to take should not be discussed here since they can be read by anyone.

OK. That's it. I'm out. Good luck to everybody!

Thanks for your concern. This problem comes and goes over time and we do clean up quite a bit when necessary. If you suspect trolling, please do not comment publicly. Instead, by using the "report to moderator" button you are helping us a lot and the reports are taken care of on a daily basis.

On some successful forums I've been on in other fields of interest every sub-forum had its own moderator (willing senior members as Paul suggested).

Additionally - the good information, when well written in a concise format got stickied within a single INDEX thread that was at the top of each subforum - this is something that Piano Street is sorely lacking. Couldn't count the number of times I, or others, have posted links to bernhards posts for example. And if you personally have trawled your way back through ALL the posts, which I have, you'll know that there are unimaginable gold mines lurking back around 2004. New members would do well to have at least some of these in plain sight.

There's an IGNORE BUTTON??? About 7 years on this forum and I didn't know about this???

They are usually available in the forum software packet and it would take only a couple of minutes to install one. I was merely talking to the Administrator about such a button as one possible "solution" that may come up. Sorry for the confusion.
