Bach - Prelude and Fugue in C# major, BWV872 (WTC II)
on: June 29, 2012, 01:11:23 PM
the lovely set in c# from the second book. the prelude is one of those beautiful harmonic exercises similar to preludes in c major and c minor from book I, though with a little more sophisticated voice leading. apparently, this music pre-dated WTC II, and bach revised it (possibly transposing it into the current key) and added a little fugato at the end, a bit in the style of goldberg variations no.16.
the fugue is a supremely witty construction of a very short motive, that in the first eight bars already comes in stretto, inversion, and diminution. bach can do anything with it that he wants. its very clever, and on the whole this set is not hard to play, though it can be hard to apprehend some of the polyphony in the fugue as it is so close together.

UPDATE: 5/17/13 i replaced this set as the original featured a very out of tune piano. i think i have corrected most if not all of the out of tune ones..

Excellent voice control in the prelude. The tenor voice was emphasized just enough so that it could be heard, but not too much that it took away from the soprano; wonderful!
Excuse me while I listen to the fugue now.
EDIT: Excellent job with the fugue, as expected. Good control of tempo and clarity with each voice, especially when it came to the 32nd runs.
