I'm sure it works, but I can only echo the concerns of one expert quoted in the article about the effect of heat. The amount by which you can tune it is quite small and the effect on the wood of all that heat will be quite large.

Far better, I would have thought, to use a self-tuning system that mechanically turns suitably-designed wrest pins, probably combined with low friction string termination. More work, sure, but could tune by an arbitrary amount both up and down.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.
