Nah, its not an ethnic group, I was just being sarcastic about it because my ancestry has been in America (U.S.) so long, just about from back when Europeans first settled in the new territory.
On a purely ethnic basis, prior to America, I suppose I am mostly Swedish, British and Irish. I'm actually part Native American also, but not very much.

This brings to my mind a famous catchphrase associated with an equally famous Icelander (the late Magnus Magnusson) - pace Thal's post # 7 in this thread - "I've started, so I'll finish"; as a matter of fact, this, in turn, reminds me of a ruefully sour remark overheard recently about the particular part of the current Eurozone crisis that's being played by (and in) Greece, namely "the Greeks started Western European civilisation, so they've at least as much right as anyone to finish it"...

Anyway, to answer the question (at last), I couldn't afford to start my own, so I am content to be a Scot.

I'm American Indian, but I always just say American when people ask about my last name.  I like to leave it at that, but I usually have to elaborate because people think it's rude when I don't.

On the fourth of July, or on St. Pats day, or whatever holiday, everyone says, 'proud to be American' or, 'proud to be Irish'.

Why?!  How?!!?!?!

Shouldn't the feeling of proudness be reserved for something you accomplished?!  Not something that happened by chance?!

For instance, I am not proud to be Dominican.  I'm HAPPY to be Dominican.  DIFFERENCE
