Need help identifying these two pieces...
on: July 11, 2012, 03:56:22 AM
Hullo ;)

I wonder if any of you might be so kind as to check out these two videos:
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgRZMn-UGg4&feature=relmfu

You may watch them through if you're into the whole Romanovs-Rasputin stuff ^^ but for what I need, you may just watch from about 6:38 to 6:46 of the first one and 4:06 to 4:12 of the second one. I'm almost entirely sure they're sections from waltzes (or maybe just one, actually) by Strauss but I just can't for the life of me remember their names and since everyone at You Tube merely ignored completely my question on there  ::) I thought I might get luckier here...I sure hope so ;D

Well, that's it for now ;)
Cheers!

Well, since I'm getting as much help from here as from You Tube  :( does anyone at least know of any software that may help me identifying these two fragments without the need of a mic and hopefully free to use?

Thanks,

That is a good movie; my friend is actually in it (credited as Natasha Reshetnikova, although got married and is now Natasha Volobuev).

Regarding the music, if it is not original music composed for the piece (feel free to e-mail the composer for the film, if you're really so desperate to find out), then I can nearly guarantee that it is by Johann Strauss II.  The music in the 1st link you posted is likely a string quartet reduction of the same waltz in the 2nd link.

But yes, I would bet money that it is Strauss II.  However, he wrote an enormous number of stupid, little waltzes like that, so I'm not sure it's super-helpful.  Maybe try to find a forum for people who like Strauss?  It's stupid music for stupid people, and there are certainly plenty of those on the internet, so I'm sure there's a congregation of them somewhere out there.

It sure is  ;) and yeah, I remember Reshetnikova, I believe she was Duchess Tatiana in it, no?

Regarding the music, I'm 100% sure it wasn't especially composed for the film, so yeah, like you I'd bet some bucks, too, that it's by Strauss II, and yep, it really is far from being super helpful.
While I disagree with you entirely on the whole 'stupid music for stupid people' thing, your idea of looking for some Strauss forum out there certainly has some merit to it; even more so given that no one has been able to tell me the name of those pieces, or piece, indeed, on any other place. I do so hate it when I can't remember a piece's name... >:(

Anyway, thanks for the advice and for taking the time to check the vids out.

Best,
