La Isla Bonita - Own Arrangement
on: July 16, 2012, 06:31:06 PM
This is a blend of the tune "La Isla Bonita" with the bass riff from "Total Eclipse of the Heart", with elements of the main riff from Sash! Ecuador.
Recorded over a couple of long evenings with a sequencer, via MIDI from a Yamaha Clavinova, 2 layers where my control just isn't up to what I wanted to create.. rendered down to mp3
Was aiming for a more melancholy version of the pop tune, hoping to lose much of the happy-bouncy feel, to replace it with something more reflective, or at least less pop-factory..
I'm mainly self taught, play by ear, and in the last year or so have been lucky enough to find a piano tutor to help me move forward without requiring learning score. It's becoming a fun journey discovering how different my mental model of what I play can be from what might be expected..

Thanks =) I wasn't too sure about posting it.. certainly there's a lot more classical here, but it's a nice enough melody, and it's a shame some tunes get tarred by the brush they were first created with..
