Brahms op 10 no 2 for fairly small hands
on: July 20, 2012, 04:11:16 PM
Hi,
My teacher wanted me to learn brahms op 10, among other pieces. They all go quite okay, except for the second one. I have to break basically everything on the first and last page, which makes the voicing and the pedal really difficult.
Does anyone have any advice on how to practice it, or any edition that helps?
Thanks

Oooh, and all ideas how to practice the runs in the third one. Why did he have to write it like that?!?!?!

Brahms Op10 No2 is the Ballade in D major. I've got Edition Peters.
I had a quick look at Op10 No2. The allegro non troppo and "molto staccato e leggiero" I believe you can get through those.
In bar 14 -21, there's 9th and 10th, is that the concern you're having? It's either you can roll the chord, redistribute the notes, cut some notes off the 10th chords...
With Intermezzo Op10 No3, do you mean those similar motion runs from bar 9,10? Practice it with a metronome hands together.
Hope this helps

To add, I can only reach a 9th from white key to white, so say c to d# is not possible.
Dan:
Well, as I wrote, it's the first and last page that are difficult for me.
And I've already practiced it with metronome, obviously, both hs and ht. So I was looking for something more... specific and special.
Thanks anyway

No need for help with the second, actually. All it took was some help from the left hand, and some slow practicing.
The third one is still a pregnant dog though...
