Could you please rank these pieces ?
on: July 29, 2012, 10:21:46 PM
The comparison should be for :

- Polonaise op 53 " Heroic" ( Chopin )
- La Campanella ( Liszt)
- Funerailles ( Liszt)
- Ballade no1 ( Chopin )
- Jeux d' eaux ( Ravel )
- Liebestram ( Liszt)

It would be very pleasant if you give me an explanation of your answer.

lol - a big part of me wishes I had the authority to remove these threads... on sight, with only the power of my mind..

no offence to the OP, I'm sure you're just trying to get some understanding as to where to start. This type of question happens a lot, but despite that, and the multitude of answers it receives, its usefulness to pianists remains fairly low..

I haven't played anything here except working on Liebesträume, but all those pieces are available in Henle editions except La Campanella, and Henle has its own difficulty ranking system for pieces they publish. It's very nice, since I find pretty much everything I've been playing for a while is marked by PS's catalog as 8+, so Henle's is very helpful.

Polonaise, Op. 53 - 8
Funérailles - 7
Ballade I - 7/8
Jeux d'eau - 8
Liebesträume - 6, 5/6, 6/7 for numbers 1-3 respectively

So, with the exception of Liebesträume, these are all a horse a piece, and I'd base your decision on
what you like the most. If you can play one of them, you could probably play any of them, unless you have a certain strength one of the pieces caters to or a weakness that makes one unplayable.

But I agree that these topics are mostly ridiculous.
