Pentatonic Peace
on: July 31, 2012, 12:33:29 PM
Just a simple, (mostly) pentatonic improvisation in F-sharp major. When I started I knew I wanted to make use of fourths and related suspended chords. The 5/4 time just happened, though on occasion I did move into 6/4.

I realised something as I was playing. Improvising is a way of cleansing myself of my old reflexes and allowing new habits of movement to manifest more fully because I'm playing something I've never played previously. I understand now why people sometimes say that improvising is a therapy for them, for different reasons sometimes. The newness of an improvisation is a profound thing.

I like the dark and soothing mood and the reflective character in the first part. At some point, where it gets excited, it feels almost as if the pentatonic scale wasn't enough anymore and you felt tempted to leave it, but you felt restricted through your first idea.

I like the use of Bass notes, the piano you have gives them a lovely tone. I am in two minds, in one way I enjoy the fact that the piece has a similar feel all the way through, however, like wolfi, I noticed the restriction feel too it, almost as if at times you could do alot more with it. Perhaps it was just how you felt at the time, either way good job. thanks for posting
