Do you have pieces that you just have to learn to play no matter what? I have one such piece that I haven't been able to get out of my head ever since I first heard it. And as much as I love Chopin and want to learn to play his music, this is not by him. It is a piano transcription of an organ work, Prelude, Fugue and Variation by César Franck, arranged by Ignaz Friedman. Probably the most beautiful simple piece of music I have ever heard.
It was really difficult to find the sheet music but I did and tried to learn the prelude last winter (my teacher was a bit sceptic). I got some carpal tunnel symptoms from trying too hard and was wise enough to stop. But only temporarily. Even if I wanted to I could not quit the piano because I just have to get good enough to be able to play this piece of music. I sometimes catch myself singing the piece in the shower (how weird is that?). I don't even really know how difficult it is (as in grades). So I don't know how many years it will take. Has anyone played it?
