Claude Bolling's Piano "Stride" Solo
on: August 22, 2012, 04:31:26 PM
Hello all! I'm new to the forums (though I'm not going to promise any fantastic no-practice way to learn how to play the piano in a few weeks, like the fellow below this post), and I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer!
I've just picked up Claude Bolling's "Stride", which is an unbelievably fun jazzy pseudo-rag that unfortunately doesn't exist on the YouTubeMachine so I can't share a sample... Anyhow, I've only had a slight amount of formal education, and so some of my technique is lacking, so when I came to a piece in the music where there are descending minor-thirds at a very quick pace (8ths at 104bpm), I wasn't sure how to play them.
Forgive me if my terminology above is wrong, but in more clear (albeit less attractive) terms, it begins on an A-C, descends to a Ab-B, G-Bb, and continues until it hits the next A-C. This all happens extremely quickly, so I haven't got the foggiest idea how to make my hand do this.
Right now I'm just using my thumb and pointer and almost 'sliding' down the scale, but I know this isn't the most effective way to do it. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I'd try something like: 3-5, 2-4, 1-3, 3-5, 2-4, 1-3, 3-5, 3-5, 2-4, 1-3.
