Could Cziffra be one of the greatest piano improvisers of all time?
on: August 24, 2012, 03:30:18 PM
I always have been wondering about why Cziffra was somehow not known as an improviser. To be honest, his jazz recordings do sometimes make me think even some of the technically greatest (e.g. Tatum/Powell/Peterson anyone?) jazz pianists have been sort of a joke compared to his. Marvel at how he varies nearly everything! And all that while hitting a million notes at a time, in a musically pleasing way. How the *** is he able to stay put with the melody while his hands sweep across the piano a dozen times per second?! How?!!!
