Casio CTK-3200 vs M-Audio Keystation 61es
on: August 26, 2012, 12:49:03 PM
hello fellow musicians :)

I wounder whats the best keyboard to start whit, i have no experience from piano, but i have played some gitar.

I thought about, Casio CTK-3200 or M-Audio Keystation 61es....

I think the price is reasonable and the keyboard looks good for my use, i think the Casio are better because of their learning system in the keyboard, what do you guys think i should get?

The casio or the M-audio, or do you have some other good value keyboards for a newbeginner?

sorry for my bad grammar and english, love from norway :)

Hello from a 1/2 Norwegian (my mother's side) who never learned the language. My cousins used to drive people nuts using a village dialect on their two-way radios.

As far as any keyboard/work station is concerned is the destination use. Top of the list is compatibility. What you plan to do with it will control what features you want.

There are tons of great products out there but you need to define your specifications.

If you plan to enter the world of midi then very complicated questions need to be asked. What was true yesterday may not be true today. At this moment nerds are writing software that will break down barriers that existed yesterday.

I think so but most keyboards are some sort of midi these days.

I'm looking for a killer guitar sound. Do you know of any software like synthfonts that has a great guitar bank?

My card has good piano, bass and vibs but I want more choices in guitar.

I want to clarify something because some people don't know this and it could be a rude surprise if they buy the wrong thing.  The Keystation is purely a MIDI controller.  That means it does not generate any sound.  It's designed to hook to a computer or sound module.  If that's what you are trying to do, it might be a good budget option.  If you are trying to simply sit at a keyboard and play and have piano sounds come out of its speakers, then this is not the right instrument to do it.

The Casio by contrast is a portable keyboard.  It has a bunch of cheapo sounds stored in its memory so you can just sit and play.  It could also be hooked to a computer and used as a MIDI controller, but that's not what most people would buy it for.

Also the 60 notes that come with most of the keyboards aren't enough to play piano music. You need all 88 notes just to play the Moonlight Sonata 1st movement.
