Scriabin Prelude No. 6, Op. 11 [WIP]
on: September 01, 2012, 01:46:53 AM
Apologize for the harshness of the mic sound. It gets a lot more attack and less sustain than it should for micing a piano, but it's not meant to mic a piano either.

There are one or two errors throughout, but nothing major on that end. I'm looking for feedback on interpretation, mostly. I am having trouble with dynamics, mainly because I get too excited and crescendo too quickly, and there's only so loud my piano can play, no matter how hard I hit the keys ::)

A couple pedal mishaps where it gets a little blurrier than I'd like, but it's hard to reset the pedal every chord change when the piece is going this fast.

Comments/criticism appreciated!

for such a 'new work' for you this is really coming along nicely! i think this is also first scriabin for you right?

i listened without score for a first impression i will go in again w score tonight or tomorrow for more detailed comments (i'm also sure some of our resident russian romantic and late/post roman. afficionados will give you some good guidance to).

but as i've said to you before on other pieces, if what you're doing is working, DON"T STOP doing it, i think you have done some great work for doing this on your own as well.

hmm on the topic of fast pedaling, i'll need to double check within the score but sometimes a 'flutter pedal' (think super quick 'half pedaling' ie you don't really depress all the way and don't really let it up all the way just a super quick  up down up down w the foot if that makes sense) it might help clear the strings just enough to keep it from running togethher, you might experiemnt with that

Thanks for the compliments and advice!

Yep, first Scriabin, and I started it after I finished my lessons, so I haven't gotten any input from anyone else. I haven't even spent all that much time on it...it's sorta just been something I've been playing around with when I don't want to practice my other pieces ;D It's short though, and very fun to play.

I'd like to get the piece a bit faster eventually. I can play it faster, but it's not completely in control and I end up missing notes I wouldn't normally miss.

As for pedaling, I've been trying to do something like that but I haven't gotten it to sound quite how I'd like it to just yet, so that needs further practice/experimenting.

Yep. For any piece that requires a lot of jumping around, I almost always memorize it before I start "learning" it.

Don't know if you are interested in the opinions of someone far less accomplished than yourself, but I liked it a lot. I can imagine how much better it would sound IRL. And you play really well, such clarity and good technique.  :)

May I ask how long did it take you to get it into this shape?

Of course! I'm more interested in the overall effect than in small details, and surely anyone with an interest in music can have an opinion on that.

Thanks, it does sound much nicer live. I've realized that a recording sucks the life out music, so if you can get a piece to sound half good on a recording, you must be doing something right.

I started the piece around the beginning of August
