I actually think you would be better off playing Yiruma, some pop song, or some smooth jazz. What would be even better if you could sing well.

They don't need to listen to it on a regular basis to appreciate it when someone plays it.

How old are you? I'm in my mid 20's. Sure, girls definitely can recite 'call me maybe' by heart, but that doesn't mean they don't appreciate the time and effort involved in learning an instrument to a (relatively) expert level.  It's not just an appreciation of the music, but an appreciation of the passion for learning that's involved.  Maybe that's just my mid/late 20's skewed perspective since every girl at my age is just hoping to find a guy that has the potential to be successful in life, and more importantly to be married before their friends  ;D

EDIT:  Oh, and if they aren't cool, why would you bother trying to impress them in the first place  :P

Another orgasm-inducing suggestion:

Of course, there's always the risk that the girl in question thinks you are just banging on the keys. However, the possibility that you'll be banging on said girl after playing this compensates any kind of negative outcome.

I don't think you could go wrong with Chopin Nocturnes, they are both musically challenging/satisfying as well as sounding pretty and impressive to the average listener.

Or the girl could get bored halfway through and therefore no sex. That's too bad, at least you played a satisfyingly and musically.  ::)

There's always the mysterious withdrawn approach.

Go to party, wear something decent looking but unusual. Don't talk to anyone, find the piano - play it for an extended period without giving a turd bout anyone or their opinions. If there is a girl that digs pianists, she will find you, and stare at you for a long time before making some really half assed attempts at conversation.

If you're going to be trying to woo a girl who will get bored halfway through a short nocturne, I don't see why wouldn't just look for easy thrills through some seedy websites. x__x

Anyway I say if the person you're trying to impress has no real musical knowledge, you might as well just depress the pedal and play quick arpeggios up and down and finish with a bunch of corresponding chords. They'd probably be more impressed by that than the Hammerklavier tbqh.

No, they'll be impressed if you can play Call Me Maybe on the piano.

And I'm not the one trying to woo this girl. I'm just saying what would happen if you tried to woo her with a nocturne.

That's too easy.. personally I'd want to be careful even having a one nighter with someone who would prefer that to a nocturne.

Guys who know nothing about girls...Dude you should just play what you already know. Why go learn a secret piece for this girl if it's going to take you a couple of weeks anyways, and then there she goes! You missed your chance to play for her. Some guy over there is playing Chopin for her and she's lovin' it! Nah, thats me. But you should play the stuff you already play well so you can focus on showing your bare emotion in it. <---I said bare.

would "bear" emotion work better?

In my experience chopin2015 is right. There's really no point trying to impress, girls are far more impressed if you're just being the "artist" - playing it because you love it, and expressing real emotion.

That said, i do enjoy debating on musical pick up methods here..

I never mention anything of my obsession with the piano repertory to girls that I meet. So I don't play for them at all.

It's far too weird for them to tolerate.

"So all you do is practice the piano for hours a day, huh? That's nice.."

(even though I've long stopped practicing for long, mindless, and ineffective amounts of time, they assume that because I have few 'other interests')

--
EDIT: I seem to have missed the point of this topic. I really don't think that piano playing alone is going to win you girls. Being an artist is an quality that makes them you like you more after you've already gotten them to like you as a person. :P

Actually I rather think it works the other way around. Being an artist draws them to you (assuming you have a performance outlet), then you have to not screw it up by being a douchebag.

I suspect that says more about baroque period contraceptive methods and religious views toward procreation than it does about J.S. Bach's wooing capacity.

Ok so I'm looking for some new pieces to add to my repertoire, and as you can probably tell by the title I'm looking for something to win over the ladies ^_^ and of course for my own sense of achievement/enjoyment.

I have only just picked up piano again recently after a year break (piano exams caused me a lot of stress and laziness, forceful motivation led me to want to give up, nevertheless I now realise how stupid it is to put something I'm good at/enjoy so much to waste). I have been playing for almost 14 years now and over the last few days have picked up Clair de Lune again.

Any suggestions?
Cheers  :)

wow this thread is still going.   Instead of trying to find the right tune, just get a bowl filled with rich chocolates and place it on the piano. Then it wont matter what you play. I dont know what age group you are looking for but chocolate is a universal attractant for females.  Take it from a wise old man who cant play piano very well, but can strike up a conversation with good results ;{ )

You can still learn that one too! It's not like you wasted time. Besides. I believe that we get better at learning and interpreting with every piece that we learn. We learn more than just the music and notes and technique.

Here are some of my suggestions:

-Rachmaninoff- prelude op23 no4
-Debussy- reverie, claire de lune
-Mendelssohn- Sonds without Words op85 no4 ("elegie")
-Brahms- Op118 no2
-Chopin- Prelude op.45 in C# Minor

If you play these and the girls don't like you, then they simply can't be won over.

There are plenty of Chopin and Debussy pieces which should do the trick, possibly Ravel's Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte. If you want something a little more contemporary sounding then Michael Nyman or Yann Tiersen. To be honest you could probably just play some of that Yiruma crap, it's bound to work. The same result for a lot less effort eh? ;)
