Study Objectives
on: September 08, 2012, 06:33:40 PM
I'm currently preparing for grade 5 (ABRSM standard), and I'm using these books (recommended by my teacher) :

1. Schmitt Op.16, Preparatory Exercises
2. Hanon, The Virtuoso-pianist in 60 Exercises
3. Bertini Op.100, 25 Easy Studies
4. Henry Lemoine Op.37, Studies for the Youthful
5. Duvernoy Op.120, The School of Mechanism
6. Sonatina Album (currently learning Beethoven, Sonatina op 49 no.2 )

I just want to know if these books are esential for my grade, and what are the learning objectives.
And if there are any explanation about other books (beginner or intermediate), I would love to hear about that as well. Thank you very much!  ;D

I assume your teacher has some clue as to what is on the exam and is preparing you as such, so my only contribution is this (fairly large) list of graded pieces.  You can double check some of what you are working on against it. Some of the more obscure names you might not be able to find, but that Beethoven Sonatina is listed as grade 6 on this list.
