Sustain pedal feel
on: September 12, 2012, 08:29:15 AM
Hey I have a random question about the sustain pedal.
How does the sustain pedal feel underfoot on a real piano?
Its sounds like a silly question, here's why I ask though.
I recently bought a Roland HP-507. When I press the sustain pedal ever so slowly it hits a 'bump' and until this 'bump' no notes are sustained. (The bump occurs very shortly after the pedal is pressed) After the bump however the notes are sustained. And as with a normal piano the more it's pressed to quality of the sustain changes. So does this 'bump' simulate the movement of the dampers being moved from the strings or is it not supposed to exist? Is the pedal supposed to feel like one smooth movement or is the slight bump accurate to a real piano?
Also when I slight, it is ever so slight, and only really noticeable when pushing the pedal very slowly.
A random question. Hope you guys can help.

It`s natural. I`ve a Roland HP 507 also and a acoustic grand Bluthner. What we feel in the digital is very similar. But, if you dont like, you may go to "piano designer", search pedal properties and change them.
Best wishes

I am yet to play ANY digital piano that has pedals that feel like a real piano. Most digitals have an on off state for the pedal, there's no allowance for pedal effects like half pedaling for instance. A real piano does not react in the way you are describing here.
