what pieces will help me play Mozart's k330??
on: September 18, 2012, 01:15:18 AM
I started playing several months ago. After I heard the k330 sonata in C major, I couldn't stop thinking about it. It goes through my head! but my hands are not fast enough to render it properly. One of my main problems is a lack of precision (even though I practice, I guess I am not familiar with the keyboard the way I need to be). Another problem is a little more complex. I was looking at some other pieces, and realized that mozart solves certain musical problems in characteristic ways - just like bach changes keys or has certain patterns that are familiar when I learn a new piece. Maybe the problem is that I am not familiar with the way mozart solves musical problems? I just don't know how to develop an intuitive sense for how to play this piece (just a sense of what is musically inevitable, I don't know if that makes sense). I also need to improve my technique, but don't know where to start. I have been playing through Czerny studies and the Anna Magdalena Bach handbook. I also have been working through Burgmuller's 25 etudes, and just taught myself beethoven's sonatinas in g and f major. I know that Mozart is supposed to be difficult, but I want to improve my skills with playing this piece as my goal! Could anyone recommend a training repertoire? does anyone have pieces that have been especially helpful in learning to play Mozart piano sonatas?
Thanks so much.

Mozart wrote some quite charming Sonatinas, which will give you a good introduction to the Sonatas without the same technical requirements.

You could try his K. 1 - K. 329... Might help lead up to it   ;D

The Rondos of Mozart are beautiful -don't know if they will prepare you for the K330 -It might be useful to just read through as many Mozart Sonatas as you can -well below tempo at first -just to get a feel for his language and finger mischief -
When a search is in progress, something will be found.

I personally find this piece quite hard like most Mozart pieces,   go threw a few Clementi Op 36 sonatinas try out N°3 and 6, you can also look out for op37 N2  I find they are more interesting then Beethovens sonatina.   If u do Beethoven go for his sonata op 49 N1 and specially first movement of N°2 really nice piece.   as for Mozart i would go for 545 then Kv 282, 3 movement and 283 first movement.   I would really take my time before starting Mozarts sonata 330, to play it well takes allot of skill and many years of dedicated piano ;)  good luck

Thank you thank you so much. I have been looking at the pieces you all recommended, and have started working through the Clementi sonatinas. I am also familiarizing myself with Mozart's rondos. The Mozart sonatas make so much sense when you listen or read through the score, but my hands just stutter over the keys when I try to play certain parts -finger mischief is very apt :). I am also looking for the sonatinas j_menz recommended, although I haven't gotten my hands on a score yet. Are these the 'viennese sonatinas'?
