Chopin Scherzo no.2 help?advice?
on: September 30, 2012, 04:42:15 AM
So i've finished this rather nice scherzo and i need to advice for smoothing it all out. Its the part before the recap of the very start, the running right hand passages while the left hand plays octaves? i could never get that smooth when i play it at speed any advice?

The first 8 bars of the Con Anima section is the hardest part of this Scherzo and as a result, I really can't play this Scherzo.

Is that the only passage that's giving you a hard time? Going up has one pattern and going down has another. It's no different to practicing arpeggios and has something similar to Etude Op25 No11.

Once you're used to it, you have to shape the left hand since that's where the melody is. What's more important than the right hand is phrasing the left hand correctly.
Perfection itself is imperfection.

Completely subjective.

Make sure your left hand isn't bouncing up and down crazily. I think it would be better if your left hand stays close to the keys so you can move quicker. As for the right hand, makes sure those right hand passages are clear. Also, start from a slow tempo. Hope this helps... ;)

For those right hand arpeggios, you want to skim as lightly and quickly as possible between the hand positions.  Commit every change to muscle memory with whatever technique you usually use.

My achilles heel is the page before the recapitulation of the main theme, where both hands are playing together.  I struggle with the leaps and I don't know what to do with the pedalling.  Everyone has their weakness.  :)

Good luck!
