was he the one that quoted something like he never made mistakes in performances because he never practiced the wrong notes?

I like his recordings of Brahms, but haven't heard many other performances of his that I liked.

It was Bekhaus who said that he didn't make mistakes because he didn't practice them (or something like that). It's a very good quote, in fact, because it's startlingly true. :)

Well, I like his Beethoven the most. His Piano Concerto sets are great.

I have a record with Kempff playing the KV488 and the c minor piano concerto by Mozart. Gorgeous! Really beautiful piano sound.

Best Wishes,

Yeah, his playing is great. He tends to be too quiet at times, listen to his beethoven 4th concerto, in the runs in the first movement, he is soo quiet but clear.

AMAZING

The Beethoven sonatas are just great!  Kempff makes them sound so enjoyable!  A very great pianist he was!

I have Kempff's complete Beethoven sonatas, and the clarity of his playing blows me away.  And his melodic lines are incredible.

I think Kempff's performance of the early Beethoven Sonatas is ideal.  I also greatly enjoy his Mozart concerti (488, 491) Bach (3rd English suite in particular), Beethoven concerti (especially the 4th) and many of his Schubert recordings.  Avoid his Chopin and Liszt, though.

I don't like his chopin either. Is there any special set beside the Beethoven concerti, sonatas and Schubert sonatas that is worth getting?

Yes indeed. No question he plays using weight as the means of tone production. Very solid playing.

I have a belief that no single pianist can play all Beethoven piano sonatas perfetly. Same goes to the Chopin etudes. You need at least 10 pianists or more combined together to get a perfect set.
