Panists with style!
on: October 08, 2012, 02:12:28 AM
Who are some pianists who you think picks out the best outfits to wear during concerts?

Now of course, Valentina Lisitsa is definitely number 1, but I always thought that Horowitz was a good bowtie wearer, and I really like whatever Stephen Hough wears.  Whatever that torso is called...  Or that one recording of Lugansky playing the Rach 3, his bow tie and the popped collar oh my god!  The wooden bow tie would have made it perfect...  But I don't like Kissins white tuxedos.  I think they kinda look stupid.  And lets not forget about the controversial Yuja Wang!  I personally don't care what she wears, but a lot of people don't like it.  They should stop making such a big deal about it.

So post-pictures away!!!

Edit:

Sorry, I thought I was in another thread.  How do you switch?

Report your own thread and ask Nils to move it.

I've tried that I don't think it works I think the forum software tells you you're silly or it doesn't make sense to report yourself...

Oh, OK. I'll do it then.

On topic, another style classic (not sure if harpsichordists count, though):

You skater boys are so obsessed with clothes!

Which reminds me... I was chatting during a piano comptetition and some people found this outfit inappropriate for the concerto final:

Are folks in the classical world really still that ridiculously concervative? It's not like he's wearing jeans and an old t-shirt. I personally would refuse to play unless dressed comfortably... Not that anyone would want to hear me, but that's not the point  ;D

I thought this Valentina figure of yours was just a lover of Rachmaninov when he lived, but in fact, she lives. And she's pretty darn good! :)

Whoa.  Just goes to show you how much the stage lighting can affect your appearance.  That or the flash.

I have always wondered how someone can use the pedals with those kind of heels? I would twist my ankles all the time...

I've always wondered how someone can actually even walk in them.

Do you have wooden underwear as well ?  ::)

obviously just for kicks

Then again, wooden underwear would be handy if any of the female pianists decided to actually use their heels for kicking... Does Valentina wear high heels?  ;D
