Liszt: La Lugubre Gondola II
on: October 08, 2012, 10:28:14 PM
Performed this a few hours ago. It went better than it had before any trial audience (which has been 1-3 people...), so I was quite happy. There are some mistakes/memory slips, but some of them just sounded like part of the melody due to the atonality (or whatever it is: It doesn't sound that atonal).

Unfortunately I forgot to open the lid, so it doesn't get as super-mega loud as I wanted it at the climax. It's still loud though...

Hope you enjoy it. iPhone recording. Yamaha piano (about 220cm I think).

It sounds clunky; melodic line sounds stamped out.  It should flow from one to the next.

Then why does Liszt indicate shifts between mp and mf, with pauses in between? I've interpreted it as it has to be very contrasty in the beginning. In the end the contrast is even greater: there are shifts between mf and pp.

The more I think about, the more this comment bothers me. I was really quite happy with the performance.

Could you elaborate?
