Pieces to study before learning Transcendental No. 5
on: October 14, 2012, 02:03:21 AM
I really think No. 5 is a wonderful work and more people can learn it successful than believe they can. Here are some pieces that I studied before/during/after my work on Étude No. 5 that I believed greatly improved and enabled my technique. If others can add to this list I'm sure it would be a good reference for those who wish to learn this work but feel a bit intimidated by its technical challenges.
Chopin Étude Op. 10 No. 2
Chopin Étude op. 10 No. 7
Brahms 51 Excercises
Prokofiev Sonata No. 2 Mvt. IV

Well, I believe about 99% of Liszt´s compositions are composed for an experienced pianist who can play them with no technical problems right off the bat. However, if you take this seriously, I would throw in the other double-note etudes, maybe the 25/4 one aswell
