What is just so great about Nelson Freire?

I would greatly appreciate if someone were to tell me what they thought were the qualities of Nelson Freire.

Try and get hold of Freire's 1974 Villa Lobos recording: the rhythmical subtlety, the firm but mellow touch and the sheer fun of it, especially in the 3 Marias -- Hamelin's recording pales by comparison.
