Hammerklavier fugue (new)

note to self: it's perhaps not THAT wise to take the fugue at a faster tempo you've ever performed it in on a lunch-time concert at 12 after two nights with hardly any sleep. Anyway, I somehow managed most of it.

What an honestly lousy applause for such a fine display of technical skill,a thrilling rendition that griped me throughout. This fugue, IMO is one that's difficult to digest, I feel you have dissected it enough to be heard by any ears. The communication between voices and clarity combined with musicality breathed life into this phenomenally difficult work, it almost makes me think I can do it myself... but I'm not even going to bother, knowing i'll fail miserably.

Overall, spectacular.

This is a treat. In general I don't like Beethoven but I have always had a soft spot for this movement and the arietta of the last sonata; no idea why. I like the way you go berserk with it; safe is boring; excellent.

Hehe, it makes me wonder if "nice" is the right word to describe any performance of this relentless piece :)

In any case, thanks guys for the comments, glad you liked it! In the future, I'll try to hold my horses in a few places where it went a bit out of control. On the other hand, there is something very nice about letting things go out of control in this music.... (but perhaps not when playing it in a competition!)

if it sounds like a tour de force, it also is one to play this piece. Only attempted the entire sonata once in concert, have to do it again soon...
