Prokofiev - Piano concerto nr 3
on: October 24, 2012, 11:51:47 AM
Did a very informal performance of this, mostly for some friends/teachers, yesterday. For some reasons, I couldn't edit this 2-hour video, but this link starts where the Prokofiev concerto starts:

thank you for sharing! you continue to amaze me and i'm super thankful for your presence on the audition board. i loved all you etudes and other recent posts and am looking forward to finish this performance! can't wait for the other movements. really, i think your playing has such great versatility but a very consistent quality, showing an understanding of structure, form, and 'fresh' ideas from an interpretative perspective.

 :)

also a big congrats to your collaborative pianist on piano II. certainly one of the more difficult 'standard' reductions out there, played with lots of clarity and sensitivity to your playing. not an easy work to hold/keep together!

Yes, "orchestra"-wise I was extremely lucky this time. Can you believe that we hardly rehearsed it (played it through once, went over a few minor details) and that he basically didn't practice it apart from that run-through? He has played the solo part too, but not everyone could pull off playing it that well just like that :)

oh, and... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa stupid DVD, it doesn't manage to read the final part of the DVD, seems to be some silly error and I would need to install some sort of program to fix this. meh.

oh, you have some Prokofiev to discover in other words! This is one of the real "war horses" of the piano repertoire, hehe. The soloist gets to rest his hands approximately 12-16 bars per movement or so, the rest of the time you have to wiggle your hands up and down the keyboard :D
