Appropriate behavior: Public Nudity
on: November 06, 2012, 09:14:20 AM
This may not affect most of you but what do you do when you see naked people walking on the street?  Do you try not to look down at the man's penis?  Do you take out your cell phone and take a picture?  Would you stare and point?

I try not to look but I feel uncomfortable.

It's legal to be nude in public here.  But some people complain about it.  They are in the process of legally banning it.  I'm against banning it, however.  If they ban nudity, I'd want the government to also ban shirtless-ness.

No shirt, no shoes, no service.

Where do you live?  Are there any nude pianists?

The evolution of mankind into a shame filled society over 3 millennia has been fairly absurd, but it is what it is.  Personally, I think I'm socially trained to be uncomfortable around it since my country was formed by prudes.

Well I assume it's been like that for almost as long as humans were using clothes as a sign of status.

Around here wearing clothes probably has had another meaning as well... I doubt many men would like their penis to be exposed to zero temperature or less. That might make them a bit stiff... ;D

I find it interesting that f_d only seems to find the nudity of men an issue to discuss. But I guess public nudity of women is old news already and no-one would find it odd...sigh...

I must say that the threads in this forum are getting pretty weird  :P

I only mention male nudity because I've seen too many public penises that were owned by men.  Female pubic nudity has never been observed so I can't say that it's an issue.

Oh... wait!  There was once an older female who was walking the streets wearing an un-buttoned shirt without a bra so her breasts were sagging down to her navel along a very wide circumference waist while spewing derogative words while looking into cars, attempting to open house doors, while seemingly under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.  I called the police to report the person.

Operator: She's naked!?
Me: Yeah, her shirt is open and she's, um, hanging out.
Operator: What is she doing?
Me: Uh... she's trying to open car doors.  Now she's trying to open house doors.  She appears to be intoxicated.

But this female was obviously not wearing a shirt not on purpose.  She was, in fact, quite fugly.  And has no bearing on the purpose of this thread.

Where on earth do you live?? I think I may have met a penis in public once or twice in my life (attached to people who found it necessary to show it around for some reason), but I see (almost or completely) naked woman all the time around in commercials, porn magazines and tv. Ok, maybe not live ones, but does it make a difference?

It's funny how our society is saturated with sex, but still people are anxious about a little nudity and the occasional penis here and there. I think most people look much better with some clothes on, but if it makes them happy I wouldn't deny them a little exposure to the sun  ;)

Incorrect.

Correct.

There's good naked and bad naked.  I think you're going to get a lot of bad naked there.  (See Seinfeld, 1990s)

If only 5% of the population is beautiful/handsome.....  It's probably not as good as it sounds at first.

*Bob is still thinking that's 5% though and it might be worth burned eyes on 95%....* ::)

*Bob decides wiping the piano bench is also a good idea.*  Imagine opera.... Or even standing in an elevator, if that weren't weird enough as it is.  Everyone's eyes would really be glued to those floor numbers above the door.

Ahem. If I had a p and I was walking around naked, I think the response I am looking for is screams. Yes, scream every time you see one, that would be so funny.

Actually, women would point and giggle, not scream.  Men would pretend like it's not a big deal.

Lol seriously? You want women to laugh when they see your p? :P On the other hand my mom told me an anecdote

a lady was on her way to work and she was talking to herself because she was stressed out and she didn't want to forget anything on the way home. a nudist man walked up to her, and she remembered "oh, that's right, need to buy sausage!"

That's just the reaction females have when they see something like this: Look!
Men just pretend like it's no big deal.

At least this experience didn't remind her to buy marrow...

I just love it how you are so much against gender discrimination but on the other hand openly present this type of stereotypic ideas :)

It's not a stereotype that women point and bring their friends over to see the penis or that men act as if it's no big deal.  This is actual behavior expressed by the different genders.  And there will be overlap on the curve so most women point and some men point, most men ignore it but some women ignore it.

I encourage you to try it.  Wear a penis for a day out in public and watch the reactions!

If you are sure that would happen where you live, it is a cultural phenomen then. That would not happen here. The women would pretend not to notice/care just as much as the men. People would feel uncomfortable because they would assume that the person is not quite well in his head and they would not know whether to call the police or something. The penis itself would not cause any special reaction, just the odd behavior.

I don't have to experiment. I come from the land of saunas (which traditionally is a place were one is naked, whether in company of another gender or not).
