on: November 07, 2012, 04:39:10 AM
so it's my birthday on 11/08 and i personally don't think that saying "it's my birthday today" would be necessary....is there anyway to hint my friends that it's my birthday? thanks!

Tell them you are having a birthday party.  That's not telling them it's your birthday, and it's a fairly strong hint  :P

Last year, I celebrated my birthday at McDonald's.  Alone.  I bought a Happy Meal.

Weeks prior, my mom asked where I wanted to go.  I said, "McDonald's".  She disliked the idea and accused me of being selfish.  She wanted to go to a buffet.

Buffets are something I detest.  It's something about food that is mass-made, saltified, MSG-flavor-enhanced, and presented in the open air where hundreds of people walk past carrying along with them the dust and germs and sneezes onto the food which is bland to the extreme of allowing you to eat as much as you can.

I celebrated alone on my birthday.  Sitting in the restaurant that my family and I had sat in during my childhood weekends.  I was being 'selfish'.  This hurt me.  I was sad.  And however Happy that Happy Meal was supposed to be, I wasn't happy on my birthday.

Be honest with your friends.  Tell them that it's your birthday in a couple of days.  If you are important to them, they'll ask you what day.  If they don't ask, then they are not your friends.

Don't tell me updating your facespace status is now old fashioned.  :o

Another trend has passed me by.   :-[

Actually, I think facespace automatically informs your friends that its your birthday..  I certainly get a stream of messages every year from people I haven't spoken to in well.. long enough that I'd forgotten who they were.

Possibly, I so rarely check it would be too late. Beyond a certain age it is, in any case, more polite not to notice.

It's faceBOOK not facespace!

faceBOOK!

I'm getting sick of mine, I'm gonna delete it soon.

Facebook is one of them, facespace is the generic lot of them.

..I have a social obligation to know what my fiance has posted. If that were not the case I would've removed mine from my life some time ago.

Methinks you have confused "a social obligation to" with "cop way too much grief if I don't"
