Suggest Liszt HR
on: November 09, 2012, 11:55:48 PM
Hi all, my teacher tells me to pick any piece from the Hungarian Rhapsodies by Liszt.

I start by admitting I'm too lazy to listen through all the HR's and getting sheet music for them.

Could you tell me, which ones are in the standard repertoire plus your favourite one?
I'm not really into any of the HR's so I better have them grow on me, with good ones from the start.

If you can come up with any on the spot, that are more of a late romantic/impressionistic-ish. I would be greatful to hear which one/s. (If any)
But perhaps that ruins the whole point of her making me pick a Liszt work.

Thank you.

If you want late-romantic or impressionistic, perhaps look past the HRs to some of his later works. I've never really enjoyed listening to his HRs... They almost bore me.

If you have to pick one though: 4, 5, and 15 are nice.
Currently learning -

- Bach: P&F in F Minor (WTC 2)
- Chopin: Etude, Op. 25, No. 5
- Beethoven: Sonata, Op. 31, No. 3
- Scriabin: Two Poems, Op. 32
- Debussy: Prelude Bk II No. 3

No.12 has a lot of fun moments in it.

2,6,11 I think are probably more of the frequently played.

Personally, I love 9, with 4 as a close second.  9 is one of the longest, but when I discovered it I honestly listened to it on repeat for a week.
I've been trying to give myself a healthy reminder: https://internetsarcasm.com/

you should see which ones your favorite pianist plays well, or have your teacher recommend one. OR pick the one which seems doable(if I was married I would make a joke right here) But yeah doable pieces are according to length, musical content, and stuff along the lines of what gives you trouble, what you are good with and what you need to learn. If you have no idea how the pianist is making that sound-chances are you should think about that.

Take Your Seat! Trifonov Plays Brahms in Berlin

“He has everything and more – tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,” as Martha Argerich once said of Daniil Trifonov. To celebrate the end of the year, the star pianist performs Johannes Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko on December 31.
